after looking at my shoes by the door for weeks, maybe even months,
i finally had the courage to get off the sofa and put them on
they were rather cold, having not worn them for so long
but they felt familiar, comfortable and safe

finally, i apologized once again
stepped over the threshold
and closed the door gently.
